As I mentioned I never really worked with gradients before.
I can't seem to get it to go as you said north-east/south-west axis. seems I can do one or the other but not both at the same time.
Attached Image
Is it just applying 2 gradient layers?

I knew about defining patterns(I do use photoshop) but I'm not really sure how to extract it like yours. Missing whatever step you do to get the clear transparent pattern.
if I just crop and apply as is it has pretty terrible results.

The erasing I found was me doing something different then what you were talking about. sorry.

I do apologize for the repeated probably very beginner level questions and again thank you for the insight.

Just use the background as a guide and you shouldn't have any problem (put the gradient on a new layer):

Attached Image

Extracting the pattern was nothing particularly fancy:
1) Crop the background
2) Create a new layer
3) Choose a brush of the correct size (I think it was 25px) and draw two white circles
4) Remove the background layer and you're left with your pattern on a transparent background

is it possible to add stroke to text in gimp like in photoshop?
I can't figure out how.
Also is it only possible to make vertical text in gimp by putting each letter on a separate line?

I'm not big on GIMP myself, but one way I've found to stroke the text is to use the text to create a path that you can then stroke.

The text in GIMP doesn't seam NEARLY as dynamic as photoshops though. I can't seam to do anything with the layer without the type throwing a hissyfit.

It's true that you can't stroke text in GIMP, you have to make a path from it (Text to path) and then stroke the path. It's annoying because you have to navigate between the "Paths" tab and "Layers" tab, so I'm using a different method.
Once the text is in place I right click its layer and duplicate it. Then I right click the lower layer and choose "Alpha to selection". When done I go to "Select" -> "Grow..." and set here how big the stroke will be. Then I use the Ctrl + (comma) or Crtl + (period) shortcuts to fill it with foreground or background colour or fill it with a pattern or gradient. After that I select all (Ctrl + a) and that's it.

I keep discovering that tools I've previously hated using are actually quite handy if you learn how to use them correctly.

So, I have a challenge for everyone; Take this image and, using a tool you either avoid using or have never used, fix something about it. Get get some practice in with some element of your software you don't normally use.

At first glance I don't see any glaring errors, which is good. There's a few spot here and there I could nit-pick, but I find most people don't even notice that kind of stuff. No one is going to read the final draft while comparing it to the original looking for differences.

I would suggest though changing up the area at the bottom spo the line flow better.

While yours is true to original, it looks wierd without the text. I would personally take some liberties and change it up a bit. Unless, of course, it going to end up entirely covered up by new text.

EDIT: Actually, looking at it again, I'm not sure if that's supposed to be fabric or not.

Thanks for the input. I know some of the lines were kinda sloppy but I'm glad there aren't any major faults. The person who requested the editing didn't seem to have any problems with this page, so I guess the typesetter is going to put the text back in.

Since ulti is on a few weeks "mostly inactive" break, I could use a second set of eyes on the finished project at /index.php?s=&am...t&p=3745184 . I think it's fine to release, but any second opinion would be welcome. Ditto for the other project listed directly below it. Thanks!

(Please direct any comments to the linked forum thread, thanks!)

See that little bit of edging on the top left of the second page? Right where her skirt ends? That's the center point. Laziest thing to do is to use your marquee (box selection) tool and copy that whole section and paste into a new file. Follow up with proper cropping for both images and use your clone stamp on page two to straighten out those bent lines and extra cropping if needed. This way no one will know the difference.... except for me... and everyone else reading this.

Anybody got links to some good font packs they'd care to share? I have too many 'junk' fonts that are no good for editing clogging up my list.

None I can think of off hand, unless you want mine. I keep them in dropbox for some reason.
