There's a saying that you learn something new everyday. Let's put that to the test. Post something that you learned during the day. It doesn't have to be factual knowledge, it could be informal knowledge you picked up at home or via the media. For instance, you find out a relative is getting married, or something of that nature.

QUOTE(suta @ Aug 16 2011, 05:38) I learned about virtual memory today... well... I tried to learn.
why would you even WANT to learn about dying technology? since 64bit computing allowed for higher Ram modules, VM is going the way of the dinosaur.

I learned there are quite a few members here obsessed with ponies. I'm also learing how to draw...for the 20th time. This time I'm taking small steps by reading tutorials and studying the human anatomy. For starters, I'm focusing on chibi characters. After a few hours of trial and error, I came up with this: [ img278.imagevenue.com] Once I learn new poses and facial expressions, I'll put all my knowledge to the test by creating a mini manga chapter based off my fictional work called "Damn". QUOTE(Rob Itagaki @ Aug 15 2011, 21:38) Fuck you they can't. My cat Zoey was quite affectionate and was never a time where she was nuzzling up against me wanting me to get her some attention. The fact I'd come home at the end of work and she'd wake up out of a dead sleep to chirp at me and want me to pet her and whatnot tells me you didn't learn shit.

From what my friend was saying, it sounds like it's still a hip thing to have.

QUOTE(radixius @ Aug 15 2011, 18:20) I learned that Rob Itagaki is an anagram of Gregory House. QUOTE(Rob Itagaki @ Aug 15 2011, 18:33) Right now I'm looking at jobs and singing Winter Wrap-up. Five minutes ago I was clinically depressed and contemplating drastic measures. Amazing what four little pills can do for you. Sounds about right. Also sounds like a job plan for Rob if Hugh Laurie dies and they need new staff. House singing a MLP:FiM song would be unique. This post has been edited by Mika Kurogane: Aug 16 2011, 11:21

Today I learned that lifespan development from a majority viewpoint sees medicine as a way to explain behavior, but fails to mention psychology as a way to explain behavior... wtf? how do you explain behavior with medicine? thats like explaining how to bake a loaf of bread by showing you the bread pan. medicine can modify behavior but it cant EXPLAIN it with the absence of it in the first place. silly women who wrote my textbook.

It's not dying technology, kid: yes, we're getting more and more ram, but we still manage to consume it as fast as it's introduced. Furthermore, in some instances of real time systems, its more than necessary; phones don't have 8 gigs of memory as far as I'm aware. If anything, it's more important with the ascent of casual computing (i.e.: tablets and internet capable phones).

And there's amoebas that are more evolved than some overly sensitive humans. We're learning a lot today chilluns.

2 things: 1, you may or may not find me attractive but calling me a [ en.wikipedia.org] kid is just being plain rude. 2, What relic of the stone age are you stuck in? Windows 98 may very well have needed [ en.wikipedia.org] tricks to help it's lame ass along but nowadays we have moved away from big numbers for big results and have moved towards working [ en.wikipedia.org] smarter and [ en.wikipedia.org] leaner What next? Will we start teaching people about the advantages of navigating a system using basic DOS commands? Or how to launch programs on an Amiga OS? Don't get mad cause I'm just teasin' ya. But there is no doubt that [ hothardware.com] SSD will eventually eliminate VM as capacity sizes go up and costs come down.

Well, isn't it still handy to know how stuff works? Geez. The ability to nav a dos system or other cli based OS is still handy, even today. It's like saying it's useless to know assembly cause there are already a lot of compilers for everything. That doesn't matter, it's still handy to know assembly, it gives one better insight in how stuff works.

Just in case you missed it, I quoted it for you. Not every comment made is serious business you know. You raise a valid point, but sadly since you failed to notice I was talking in jest, your point is moot. Game Over. Insert coin to continue!
