Is there any chance e-hentai would introduce a new feature that would allow us to mark doujinshi as a specific volume in a series.
This would then similarly to how MyAnimeList, allow for doujinshi to show their sequels and prequels. And if there are multiple sequels or prequels in different languages for example or from different translators, then it would simply take the one with the language most matching the current volume and then if there are still multiple that are left, chose the one with more hearts or higher rating.
This would could then also allow for a new search option, called something like "group by series". Which would then not show doujinshi that are in a series and instead show them as one series, with the cover being the cover of the first doujinshi and the name being the name of the series. It could also beneath the series, instead of page amount, show the volume amount. (With this grouping mode it would then show in the results, series that have at least one volume that matches the tag.)
In this thread I referred to it as volume, but we could also use the term "part" or "story" instead, or offer a couple of different names that can be chose from. Although I think sticking with one is probably better to keep it uniform.
Adding this feature would also make it easier to directly see what variants there are of every volume (variants as in different translations, censored and uncensored versions, etc.) as they would be beside each other and more clearly marked as volume 7 for example. Currently it can be really hard to find these as often years later updated version of volumes are uploaded that are then far away form the previous versions of that volume. (What I then often end up doing, is conduct another search for that specific series to have all the volumes beside each other at a glance and then repeat that for every other series from that artist.)
All in all I think this would be a great addition that is optional in the sense that no one that doesn't want to use it would be influenced in any negative way. And of course after being implemented it would take some years for doujinshi to be marked by us, but I think the payoff is well worth it. I would be happy to hear anyone's thoughts on this.
Cheers
