Do you see yourself getting tired or growing out of playing video games anytime soon? |

I kind of feel like I'm burned out of playing video games these past couple of years. Life has been fairly good to me these past few years, so I've had the opportunity to do other things with my time besides playing with my Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, and even games on my Android phone. And it's funny because I still occasionally buy games for those consoles and on my phone I mentioned before, but mostly when they're on sale for a good price. But as a result of this, my back log of games is pretty big. I even still have some games like Black Ops 2, Skyrim, Twisted Metal, and Borderlands 2 in their plastic packaging from when I bought them on Black Friday last November. Yet despite my back log, the ONLY game that I've been playing constantly these past couple of years, has been MLB: The Show, for PS3. And I guess it doesn't hurt that baseball has been my personal passion since high school also. But I feel even that is starting to wind down for me these past 2 or 3 years now.
Also recently, I've discovered the goodness that is Steam for the 1st time. I have all my games that I've downloaded from Steam on my laptop for now, because I usually just play those games at work when I have little breaks here and there. And the game that I play the most from Steam is Euro Truck Simulator 2 (I've got like almost 100 hours put into that game so far). But now a days, I see myself playing even those games less and less frequently - they just don't hold my attention like they used to when I first got them.
Some of my friends told me that if you put some time off from playing games, it usually helps to rekindle that need to play again. So I might just do that for the next couple of weeks and see what happens. And also hopefully, with the announcement that Sony made about the PS4, maybe that will also help my inner-gamer in me to come out again.
So... is anyone else here on the same boat as me? Just liked to know how others are dealing with or have dealt with this issue before.
P.S. As for why I used a slightly bigger font when I wrote this, someone suggested to me that it's easier on the eyes to read long pieces of writing with a bigger font.

I flow in and out. I've gone entire months not touching a single video game, save my PSP/Vita for music. It's one of those things that I look at and think "I could actually stop doing this at any time. I just don't have enough shit to do most the time."

I've never felt burnt out on games as a whole but I'm far more invested in them than most. I can't count how many challenges or max stat files I have for RPGs and JRPGs. My time spent on ToS and ToV alone would exceed 1000+ hours of dedicated play finding things to do. The same goes for fighting games in that regard, I can sit in training mode or in lobbies for 8+ hours and just play till work rolls around or I want to sleep.
What does happen to me though is I do get burned out on certain types of games so that I avoid them for awhile. Like I have purposely ducked lots of FPSes because I don't feel like playing them at all. I'd make an exception for Bioshock but Halo, COD, Battlefield, etc. I'm just tired of. Can't say I've ever neen burned out on fighters or rpgs because that's my bread n butter, couldn't stop with them if I wanted to. Hack n slash games I duck like all hell because I don't find nearly enough of them to be any good. Duckin' MMOs because I don't want to be bothered with the long haul in those games at the moment and so on.
Games as a whole I've never been exhausted with or unmotivated to play. Certain types of games however do bore me or make me uninterested after awhile.

yes i do because i'm annoyed at how every company is trying to nickel and dime the consumer. all the DRM shit everywhere and what is worse... DLCs....
When dlc's first launched, every developer was saying that nothing would be removed from any game to be released as DLC. Now most games have DLC even though some of the DLC should have been part of the game in the first place. It would have been part of the game just 2 or 3 years ago too which makes it worse i think.
of course, the consumer has some of the blame too since.... we wouldn't have DLC if it wasn't for the consumer buying them up like lemmings ><

Then there was that whole "the content is ON the disk, but you have to pay to activate it" shit. That was a million times worse.

I see can myself stop 'buying' games if game companies don't stop ripping people off. Companies like Capcom with their disc-locked content, EA with their online passes, Blizzard with their monthly fees, etc. I already stopped buying from GameStop. I might even stop playing all together if they don't evolve from the shooter genre. I've bought less games this console generation than previous ones because 75% of them involve using guns. I get tired of that. PS1 had PS2 era had tons of JRPGs and I loved that, bought more games than I could ever play. So if PS4 is just more Uncharted and Call of Duty, it's going to be game over for me.
In recent years I found that I like anime more than video games anyway.

Already am.
But I don't have any other hobby besides reading, so I'm kind of still trying to hang onto it.

Why do you people keep buying new games even when you are against the latest trends (DRM, DLC, half assed games, etc) is beyond me. Just keep playing the good old ones and you'll be fine. There are tons of gems waiting to be played out there.

Soon? Nope. But I do feel less interested in playing games these days, leaving me with little to do. At this rate; I may eventually have grown tired of games before I die.
Also: People complaining 'bout too many games having DLCs and feeling they're too expensive this way? I usually wait for those games to drop in prices and release the DLCs in a single package, either with the game itself or as a separate package.

I still like REAL games, the few that are released these days. By real, I mean full console games and not mini-games with graphics from the 1980's. "Ooh, it's retro! It looks like a game from 25 years ago!" How moronic is that?! I do grow tired of RPG's. I like them, but committing 40 hours to a game... I just can't anymore.

Try getting into mods. They're often way better than the original game. Plus, it's a gateway to a community that is involved in the creative process rather than simple passive consumption of content, which ends up being more interesting for everyone.

No. In fact, videogames are quite helpful for both writing and drawing. I keep imagining stories based on plot, or stories containing superpowers, power-ups and abilities from videogames, and I look and analyze human shapes and backgrounds.

I am surely not going to move away from games. Never have been a HC gamer or anything, but still games have been and still are a big part of my life. I also have a huge pile of games collecting dust, but that just means I have a new game when I get bored with the current one.

I love games (some of them at least) mostly for the creative plot, content & unlockables. Nowadays I've lost interest for most companies 'cause of 3 reasons: Lack of creativity. DLC abuse. Console exclusivity tricks. QUOTE(Muramasa777 @ Mar 7 2013, 00:02) No. In fact, videogames are quite helpful for both writing and drawing. I look and analyze human shapes and backgrounds.
That's one way to put it, glad to know that you focus on anatomical sketch

Probably not. I'm definitely playing less compared to a few years ago because of my (first) job and me taking up scale modelling as a hobby again, but games have always been a part of my life and won't go away.

Playing less these past couple months, mainly due to school (bullshit) and computer/Internet. I'm definitely not getting out of gaming, like, ever, short of them forcing Internet connection, and

If I stop liking what gets put out, yes I do see myself not playing video games anymore. But if stuff I like keeps getting put out, I doubt I'll stop anytime soon.
